62 Magical Harry Potter Birthday Gifts for Muggles

Once a year, we each get to wake up on the most magical day of our lives – our birthday! And on that day, we are often showered with gifts and love from family and friends.

It’s actually my birthday this week – my birthday falls between Emma Watson’s (Hermione Granger) on April 15th and Horace Slughorn’s on April 28th. This seems pretty much fitting if you know me IRL. 🤓🐍

Because every witch, wizard, and even muggle deserves to have a magical birthday, I’ve scoured my own wishlists and the rest of the muggle internet to find the most magical and best Harry Potter birthday gifts.

This post was originally published in April 2020, and was updated in June 2021.

1. Hogwarts Acceptance Letter

Whether you’re turning 11 or 111, could there be a better gift to receive than your long-awaiting acceptance to Hogwarts? I know I’m about 22 years overdue but I’d still be just as happy to receive this one – the most magical of all Harry Potter birthday gifts. Even if it is arriving by muggle post rather than owl post…

This personalized set of Hogwarts acceptance documents will make any witch or wizard feel special – and it’s quite affordable at less than $20!

2. A Wand

Did you realize that Harry received his first wand on his 11th birthday? So much happened on that day – it’s hard to keep track of it all!

Every witch and wizard needs a wand, so what better day to be chosen by yours than your birthday?

Your wand can choose you at Ollivanders in Diagon Alley at the Wizarding World in Orlando, or the Hogsmeade outpost at Harry Potter World in Hollywood. You can also find wands at Platform 9¾ (which is admittedly a little off-canon) and even online from The Noble Collection.

3. A Sorting Birthday Candle

If you need to light a candle for birthday wishes, this one does the (magic) trick!

This candle, The Sorting, comes in one of four colors reveals the House of the person who receives it as a Harry Potter birthday present! If you know that person’s house, you can choose that color, or opt for the ‘Sort Me’ candle and the candlemaker will consult the Sorting Hat to choose the perfect candle to gift.

4. An Invisibility Cloak

Muggles dream up the craziest ways to live without magic, don’t they? If you use the right app on your muggle smartphone while wearing this invisibility cloak, you will actually disappear!

While Harry received his Invisibility Cloak as a Christmas gift, I can imagine it’s pretty cool as a birthday gift too.

5. The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook

Does the birthday boy or girl love rock cakes? Treacle pudding? Or maybe they’re more of a savory type and prefer pumpkin pasties.

In any event, the Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook has all the recipes to make an epic birthday dinner and dessert – and even includes a 16th Century ‘buttered beer’ recipe! (Not to be confused with Butterbeer…)

6. The HP Illustrated Series

Yes, every huge Harry Potter fan has already read the book a dozen times, but there’s nothing quite like rediscovering the stories with fresh eyes.

To that end, the Illustrated Collection is a perfect Harry Potter birthday present – beautifully illustrated by Jim Kay, these books bring the stories to life in a whole new way.

You can get books 1-3 in a box set, and Goblet of Fire is currently available for sale on its own.

7. A Time Turner

Want to relive your birthday again and again? There’s only one way to do it: a Time Turner!

While most of the Time Turners were destroyed in 1995 during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, the Noble Collection has been hard at work and you can now get them on Amazon and their website.

8. Golden Egg Trinket Box

If you need somewhere to store your Time Turner, this is a great birthday gift. This golden egg opens – with no mermaid song to blast your eardrums – and holds trinkets including jewelry and other valuables (like a resurrection stone ring, if you have one of those lying around too!).

9. Hogwarts Snowglobe

When I was small and awaiting my Hogwarts letter (still waiting), I always loved thinking about living in Hogwarts castle. Maybe that’s why the Model Room at the Harry Potter studio tour was so moving to me…

If you know someone who feels the same way about Hogwarts, this snowglobe is a great gift. All it takes is a shake to bring back the magic of the magical world.

10. Tickets to the Wizarding World

If you’re going to celebrate getting a year older, why not do it in a magical style? For my own 30th birthday, I spent the day at the Wizarding World in Hollywood; I’ve visited Harry Potter world in Orlando several times too! I’ll always fondly remember sipping delicious butterbeer and waving my wand to make magic happen in the windows of Hogsmeade shops.

Admittedly, a ticket to either Wizarding World is a splurge, so this is a Harry Potter birthday gift for the most special witch or wizard in your life!

House-Specific Harry Potter Birthday Gifts

In case you need even more ideas and want to gift something specific to the birthday girl/boy’s Hogwarts House, I’ve got you covered! I have gift guides for each of the four Hogwarts houses, and each list below is just a small subset of all the amazing gifts I’ve found.
